Difficulty: Easy
Webb Mountain park is southern Connecticut’s hidden gem. The park is not overly populated and has a lot to offer for the entire family! Webb Mountain offers hiking, overnight camping (11 camp sites available by reservation) and a kids discovery zone.
There are several trails all though out Webb Mountain. Most will follow Round Hill Brook, the red trail will take you to a stunning view overlooking Route 34, the Housatonic River and the valley. The turn to the overlook is easily missed, but looking for a large boulder (see picture) indicates the approximate turn onto the purple path leading to the overlook. sitting at an elevation of about 250ft, this lookout is a must see. The remaining blue and yellow blazes trails will take you around the 135-acre park situated on the Monroe/Shelton border.
Adjacent to the Park is a kids discovery zone. This 170-acre parcel of land first opened to the public in 2007 and is operated by the Monroe Parks and Rec division partnering with the Connecticut Science Center. Since then, the area has expanded to include a well marked trail system (trails are loops which lead to the same point, so getting lost is difficult) and various exhibits. Kids can learn about the local habitat and ecosystem, the value of rocks and minerals and partake in a scavenger hunt along the 4-miles of trails.
Overall, Webb Mountain and Webb Mountain Discovery Zone are perfect activities for the whole family. This secluded spot in Southern Connecticut is a great place for all ages. Offering hiking, camping and education activities, Webb Mountain is a remote getaway in an otherwise populated city region.
Parking: Park Along Old Fish House Road for access to the park and campsites. Park on Webb Mountain Circle for access to the Discovery Zone
