Keene Valley, NY
Difficulty: Easy to Medium
Nestled in the in the Adirondack Mountains, Keene Valley, NY is a long way from the city. Located about 2 hours south of Montreal, Canada and 30 minutes from Lake Placid, this small town is home to 15 of the 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks. Rooster Comb is not one of these 46 high peaks, but situated at an elevation of 2,592ft it offers a 360 degree breathtaking view of the Adirondacks and high peak wilderness. This 4.5 mile out and back trail (2.25 miles each way) is almost constantly uphill, but at a very gradual incline. Don’t let the incline or elevation scare you, this hike can easily be done in a few hours (I did this hike in 2h and 15m with friends who were not in hiking shape). This hike is one of the most popular hikes in the region, especially for causal hikers looking to get some exercise and enjoy a view.
Parking: Trailhead and parking are located on route 73 with a decent size lot and trailmap.
