Housatonic Overlook

Orange, CT

Difficulty: Easy

Nestled just off of Wheelers Farms Road and Derby-Milford Road, Housatonic Overlook is a small park with trails leading to a beautiful view of the Housatonic River. Hikers can enter the trail at two locations, one location off of Wheelers Farm Road, the other off of Derby-Milford Road. Both trails lead to Tuckers Ridge, a beautiful overlook and bench where hikers can rest and recover before returning to their vehicles.

The 1.7 mile trail is great for hiking, mountain biking, family outings and walks with our furry friends! Trails are marked and easy to follow and the view at Tuckers Ridge is unforgettable! There are a few elevation changes and rock scrambles, but overall hikers can expect an average CT hike. Tuckers Ridge overlooks the Housatonic River with Twomile Island directly ahead and Shelton Route 110 to the left.

Hikers who choose to go directly to Tuckers Ridge can park at the end of High Ridge Road. Tuckers Ridge is just a short walk up a gravel path. For those who want the full 1.7 mile trail can park on Cedar Grove. This entrance is further from the ridge, but offers a more secluded trek through the woods. If you are looking to spend a day hiking, you may be disappointed as this hike is generally completed in less than an hour. However, if you are looking for a new place to explore with the family or looking to relax after a busy day, this is the perfect place!
